Annotations for Forced In

Lyric: Ah, ooh...
 Break me in
 Ah, ooh...
Annotation:
A double entendre. It can be read as breaking in a new pair of shoes (making the artist “fit” the industry), as well as “breaking” a horse (stripping away their spirit until they’re obedient.

Lyric: Squeeze me in
 Into greed
Annotation:
Notice the word choice. “Squeeze” makes it feel like he’s being stuffed into a box that’s way too small. It’s total claustrophobia. Sonically, the track is super lo-fi and murky, which matches that feeling of being suffocated by the industry.

Lyric: Push me in
 Into greed
Annotation:
Matt’s basically talking about selling out. When Muse first blew up, they were these skinny kids from a tiny town (Teignmouth) being shoved into the corporate meat grinder. “Push me in” = the label forcing them to be “the next Radiohead” just to stack cash. It’s that classic “loss of innocence” trope.
